The inspiration to start a granola business came during the summer of my freshman year of high school. I was on a vacation with my best friend through New Mexico, and we came across granola that was not crunchy.

About a year after the vacation, I wanted to bring something unique for my friends to eat on a weekend Boy Scout campout.  With my passion for cooking, I experimented in my mother’s kitchen to come up with a recipe similar to what I remembered from the trip.  After many failed attempts at trying to make the perfect recipe, I finally came up with what Anderson Trail markets today as Original Recipe.  Everyone on the campout liked the granola, and it was quickly eaten up.  That’s when the idea to start a granola business was planted in my mind.

In December, 2003, when I was 16, I made the granola for my family, friends, and teachers at school.  Again, the response was overwhelming.  While in Colorado visiting family for the holidays, my aunt tried my granola and urged me to get it out there and share it with everyone.  After researching the market by going to a local health food store and looking for competition, I decided to move forth with starting the business.  The granola at the health food store was either stale packaged in a box, or in a cattle-feed like state residing in bulk bins.

Now, you can purchase Anderson Trail Original Recipe, which includes a blend of almonds, cherries, coconut, cranberries, dates, honey, oats, pecans, and zante currants.

Anderson Trail can be enjoyed as breakfast with yogurt and fresh fruit, as a healthy lunch, or as an after dinner dessert with your favorite ice cream while relaxing to the melodies of Bach.
